Tell us about your career journey since you graduated…

Soon after graduation I was head hunted and offered a place on an accelerated graduate scheme with Capgemini. I was lucky enough to be given a choice of different roles as I had studied for multiple different disciplines while at university. I ended up choosing to go into the technical role.

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

I lead a small team of three people and oversee Data Cache systems within HMRC. I maintain the data integrity within HMRC systems. I also make automation routines to automate daily tasks like reporting and health checks of systems. I also hold meetings with stakeholders and scope out the future developments.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

The main highlight has been how fast my career has been moving. I have already been promoted twice within the span of 1.5 years, overseeing a critical system which handles all the financial data and payment to critical systems like benefits.

Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?

Having lecturers who work in the industry has always helped me grow and prepare. I use things in my career that I learned, like project planning and developing software.

If you could give one piece of advice to new students, what would that be?

Ask for help. I always found all the lecturers to be very helpful and knowledgeable.

What would be your top tip or advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey?

It's never too early to apply for jobs. Once in a job don't be afraid to ask questions and ask for a mentor who can help you advance your career.
