Work while you study

Part-time and vacation work

Want to earn extra cash, gain valuable experience and develop your transferable skills while studying? Our Job Shop can help you to find part-time, temporary and vacation work in administration, retail, government, science and many other areas. Whether you’re based on campus, in and around Uxbridge, in Central London or further afield.

All jobs advertised by our Job Shop pay at least the National Minimum Wage or in most cases above this amount.

We recommend that as an undergraduate student you work a maximum of 15 hours per week during term-time. Employers who advertise with our Job Shop are aware of this and may be flexible to your academic timetable.

If you’re an International student please seek individual immigration advice for working rights in the UK.

Work placements

Many of our courses offer ‘sandwich’ work placements as an important part of study. Some students fear that an extra year at University will be a financial burden, but a placement almost always pays you back. The average starting salary for graduates who completed a placement during the course of their studies is consistently higher than for those who did not – in 2016, the different was £4,052.

Most 12-month placements are paid, with salaries ranging from £14,000 to £20,000 a year. Voluntary placements are common in certain sectors, but students who would face financial difficulty in undertaking an unpaid placement may be able to apply for a Brunel Placement Bursary (subject to confirmation).
